| Before the
First Visit As you get ready
for your first visit, please prepare your child for this new experience. Expect your child
to react well and enjoy the first visit to our office, and chances are he or she will do
exactly that. Convey good feeling to your child by saying, "The dentist is going to
show you lots of fun things to help take care of your teeth and to make them sparkle and
shine. " The appointment time is reserved especially for your child. We appreciate a
24-hour notice when a change in your appointment becomes necessary.
The First Visit
Our staff will review your child's health history
with you. Your child will be introduced to our dental team and will be allowed time to
become comfortable before the examination. For a toddler, usually the oral examination is
modified to their age level. For young children, an oral examination, thorough cleaning
and fluoride treatment is usually performed. Any necessary radiographs (x-rays) of the
teeth and jaws may also be taken. Following the examination, findings and recommendations
will be discussed, and an estimate of the treatment will be given to you.
We invite you to stay with your child during the
initial examination enabling us to gain your child's confidence. Though parents are
regularly in and out of the treatment area, during future appointments we find that we can
establish a direct and close rapport more quickly with your child if they are allowed to
have their own dental experience.
Preventive Dentistry
Believing in the highest level of preventive
dentistry, our office highly recommends sealants for permanent teeth. A sealant is a thin
layer or hard plastic, which is bonded to the biting surfaces of the back (molar) teeth.
It provides a smooth brushing surface and can reduce cavities as much as 90%. Today, with
good oral hygiene, regular dental care, proper diet, the use of
fluorides and sealants, children have the opportunity to go through life CAVITY FREE!
Restorative
Dentistry
Our practice strives to deliver the highest quality
restorative dentistry. Preventive resin restorations (tooth colored
fillings) are placed to
conserve tooth structure. Comprehensive restorative care is also accomplished using
nitrous oxide analgesia (sweet air), conscious sedation and hospital dentistry.
